Electrical Safety
We have recently become aware of changes to the Electrical Safety Act which will effect ALL business owners including employers and self-employed persons.
The changes to the act require that all electrical equipment be tested for safety and tagged accordingly. This testing must be carried out at least every five years and any many cases every year. In some sectors testing is required even more frequently such as on construction sites.
Computer technicians such as ourselves are not suitably qualified to carry out this testing as it must be performed by a licensed electrician. We are exploring other options which may allow us to perform the necessary testing and tagging but for now our hands are tied.
We recommend that you consult your solicitor/lawyer and/or a licenced electrician to find out how the act applies to you and what steps you should take. If you require further information we recommend Cameron at Leigh-Cooper & Associates. Cameron is a qualified Risk Assessor and is familar with the Electrical Safety Act and the relevant standards. Cameron has prepared a document for us outlining the changes: Electrical Safety.pdf
