How do I make a new directory?

This one is so easy but up until the latest version (3.66) the command was not very well documented. The simple answer is you press the INSert key to insert a directory. When you press ENTER, QD3 creates the new directory under the current path and automatically changes into it

I don't understand associations, what do they do and how do I use them?

I get this question alot, associations seem to confuse many of you. Try running the demonstration program if you havn't done so already. This goes through the setup of a sample association. If you still can't make any sense out of it send me an email.

How can I manipulate archives in QD3?

This is another one that seems to stump many of you. First of all you need a basic understanind of what an archive is. An archive is a file that contains a number of compressed files. Archives come in many formats such as PKZIP, ARJ, LHA and PKARC. For example a file with a .ZIP extension is a PKZIP archive. If you press the 'O' key in QD3 when the cursor is on one of these files, QD3 opens the archive and displays it's contents on the screen. You can then copy and delete files in the archive. This is much easier than doing it the old way, for example to delete a file from an archive in DOS you would type:

PKZIP -d myfiles.zip myfile.doc In QD3 you just "Open" myfiles.zip, put the cursor on myfile.doc and press DELete!

Why is the archive bit set in attributes when the file is not an archive?

This is a simple case of the same word having two different meanings. An archive is a file containing compressed files whereas the archive attribute simply means that the file is a copy. DOS, QD3 and other file managers set the archive attribute of the target file whenever a file is copied. The two meanings are totally different.
