QD5 is based on QD3 which was a DOS based file manager program. If you remember back to those dim, dark days there was a time when there were two main rivals in file management, XTree Gold and Norton Commander. XTree Gold seemed to be the popular choice with it's simple keyboard commands (ie C for Copy) but I liked Norton Commanders dual window interface that made it very easy to jump around your hard drive. With QD3 I combined the best of both programs using a Norton Commander style interface with Xtree Gold's simple keyboard commands. QD3 was fast, powerful and easy to use but just when the product was establishing itself Windows 95 came along with it's long filenames and ruined everything!

Ever since that day I've tried in vain to reproduce QD3 in the Windows environment. I made several attempts at a QD4 and even had a few working prototypes but I was never really happy with them. Some of them used Access databases which were very slow and resource hungry. Some versions came close but they were always missing something.

Gradually over the years my programming abilities have improved and I've learned lots of neat ways to get around Windows shortcomings. Finally I have what I think is shaping up to be a product worthy of the QDx name. So far QD5 is performing very well and as I add more and more features it is really starting to look like a great application. The current version is still in an early prototype stage and is missing many of the important features. However the foundations have been laid and I am now developing all the various functions and features to make QD5 the best file manager for Windows.

If you would like more information please contact me at robert@epsoft.com.au I will soon be looking for beta testers to help me iron out all the bugs. All beta testers will receive a free copy of the final product once it is complete.
